We are excited to announce the launch of Laurens County First Steps’ website. We teamed up with Executive Director Rosemary Patterson and learned early in the process about the many programs and opportunities they offer young children and their families. Through the Parents as Teachers program, they provide home visits to families in the community and work to ensure that children will arrive at Kindergarten ready to succeed. In addition, they offer high-quality trainings for local childcare professionals. Topics range from nutrition and health/safety to program administration and other professional development opportunities.

Laurens County First Steps also offers an extensive Resource Guide online, including links to the many organizations they work with. From WIC to the SC Child Care Resource & Referral Network, these programs offer many important services to the community. One ongoing program is the “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” campaign, which encourages parents to read 1,000 books by the time their child enters Kindergarten. The app that goes along with it is designed to help parents track the books they’ve read and any major milestones.
Rosemary says, “We know that the development of a child emotionally, mentally, and socially is the foundation for success in later life.” Her team is driven by this mission and is excited to now have a web presence where they can highlight their programs and provide key resources to the community.
